About A Cautionary Tale and the Creation of Uphook Press

 

 

Assertives, paint pushers, protesters, off-the-wallers, examiners of ants and skylights, sound lovers, rhythm beaters, life beaters, joke makersA Cautionary Tale brings together seven performing poets who are also visual artists and musicians.

 

All regulars on the New York poetry circuit, the group came together on a blustery post-reading 2006 night in a Greenwich Village restaurant. Wishing to preserve the energy of the moment, Theo Coates decided to take a closer look at the group's poetry and creative lives. Just like that, the collaboration was born. A Cautionary Tale: mind the step as you open the door.

 

In 2008, Ice Gayle Johnson and Jane Ormerod took over Uphook Press with a view to create a nationwide community of performing poets. Also on the editorial team are Brant Lyon and Thomas Fucaloro. you say. say. was published October 1st 2009the first of an annual anthology taken from open submission. hell strung and crooked arrived September 1st 2010. The latest Uphook Press book, -gape-seed-, contains work by fifty-two poets, plus an interview with the award-winning poet and spoken word pioneer, Regie Cabico. As always, the book is supported by readings and events across the country.
